Pharmacotherapeutic group
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic drugs.
Therapeutic indications
Blockpain is intended for the short-term relief of moderate to severe postoperative acute pain.
Treatment should be started only in hospitals. The maximum duration of treatment is 2 days.
Contraindications
Blockpain is contraindicated in:
- patients with hypersensitivity to ketorolac trometamol, to any of the drug excipients or to other NSAIDs in the anamnesis, and patients with allergic reactions to acetylsalicylic acid or in other inhibitors of prostaglandin synthesis (severe anaphylactic reactions were observed in such patients). Such reactions included asthma, rhinitis, angioedema or urticaria;
- patients with a previous history of asthma;
- children under 16;
- patients with an active peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers or perforation in the anamnesis;
- like other NSAIDs, Blockpain is contraindicated in patients with severe heart, liver and kidney failure;
- patients with moderate or severe renal dysfunction (serum creatinine >160 μmol/l) or patients at risk of renal failure due to hypovolemia or dehydration;
- during pregnancy, labor and delivery or during breastfeeding;
- as a prophylactic pain reliever before surgery due to inhibition of platelet aggregation and during surgery due to the increased risk of bleeding;
- Blockpain suppresses the function of platelets, therefore it is contraindicated in patients with suspected or confirmed cerebrovascular bleeding, patients who had operations with a high risk of bleeding or incomplete hemostasis, and patients with a high risk of bleeding, e. g. patients with hemorrhagic diathesis, including coagulation disorders;
- patients receiving anticoagulants, including warfarin and low-dose heparin (2500-5000 units every 12 hours);
- patients receiving acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs (including selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors);
- for neuraxial (epidural or intrathecal) administration as it contains alcohol;
- combined with oxpentifylline;
- simultaneous treatment with probenecid or lithium salts;
- patients with complete or partial nasal polyposis, angioneurotic edema or bronchospasm.
