
Cefuroxime
General properties
Antibacterials for systemic use. 2d generation cephalosporins.
Cefuroxime is intended for treatment of the following infections in adults and children, including newborns (postnatal) (see the sections “Specific use” and “Pharmacological properties”).
- Community-acquired pneumonia.
- Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
- Complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis.
- Soft tissue infections: cellulitis, erysipeloid, wound infections.
- Intra- abdominal infections (see the section “Specific use”)
- Prevention of infectious complications after gastrointestinal surgery, including esophagus, after orthopedic and gynecological surgery (including caesarean section) and cardiovascular surgery.
In the treatment and prevention of infections caused by anaerobic microorganisms, cefuroxime should be used in combination with the respective additional antibacterias.
Official recommendations for the correct use of antibacterials should be taken into account.
Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or other components of the drug.
Increased sensitivity to cephalosporins.
History of severe hypersensitivity (for example, anaphylactic reactions) to other beta-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, monobactams, and carbapenems).
Pharmaceutical characteristics
Crystalline powder of almost white or yellow colour.
Keep out of reach of children in the original packaging at a temperature of not higher than 25 °C.
After dilution, the drug can be stored for up to 48 hours in a refrigerator (from 2 to 8 °C) or for up to 5 hours at a temperature of not higher than 25 °C.
